The heARTlines children’s literature festival kicks off in Mundaring, Perth, next week.
The incredible exhibition is FREE, and though bookings for the schools program are closed, there are some awesome workshops for the public:
Drawing and Illustrating with Charcoal
Join celebrated artist Brian Simmonds for this excellent opportunity to learn skills and techniques for illustrating using charcoal on paper. You will also have the chance to see some of the original illustrations for his latest children’s book Light Horse Boy (author Dianne Wolfer) as part of the heARTlines exhibition.

A Well Versed Afternoon of Poetry
Join the Well Versed group of poetry readers for a delightful afternoon of poetry. Some of the great poems of our time by Lewis Carroll, AA Milne and TS Eliot will be part in this program celebrating children’s literature.

On A Wing and A Prayer
The documentary On A Wing and A Prayer follows the incredible life cycle of the Carnaby’s cockatoo through the engaging story of one small cockatoo family. Capturing this remarkable journey of life for one of Australia’s most loved, but critically endangered birds is filmmaker Leighton de Barros. Join Leighton for a discussion about this documentary and the process of telling a story through film
and then print.

Cartooning Around with James Foley
Join renowned cartoonist James Foley for an introduction to creating your own kooky comic strips. James drew the Quokka cartoons for many years and has just illustrated his second book, In The Lion, which he also wrote!
Tuesday 9 July| 1pm – 4pm | $15 members or $20 general
