I love to meet my readers, whether in a virtual visit, at a festival or in person at your school or library.
I aim to inspire resilience, creativity, curiosity, and a passion for living with passion.
I’ve taught online workshops and seminars for the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) and the Brisbane Writing Festival’s Online Literature Festival and I’m keen to do more using Zoom, Skype, Twitter, WhatsApp…let’s give it a go!
I bring a lot of energy to my presentations and this translates through the screen as well as on the page.
I’m based in Perth, and (used to) regularly travel to present author talks and writing workshops. I use humour, quirk, emotion and science to capture attention, teach creative thinking and get kids enthusiastic about reading, writing, creating and STEM/STEAM.
Linking STEM to creativity, innovation and fun
Science and engineering is often seen as the opposite end of the creative spectrum to story and writing. Yet both require a sense of wonder, a quest for more, and an ability to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. In my presentations, I use examples from recent science and technology to interactively demonstrate ways in which STEM can be used to fire our creative imaginations. Can be run as a workshop, a talk, or a hybrid of both.
- How non-fiction can be even more fun and fantastical than fiction

I’ve worked with many thousands of children and adults to inspire a love for science, technology, creativity, reading and writing.
