Cristy Burne

I love to meet my readers.

I aim to inspire resilience, creativity, curiosity, and a passion for living with passion.

I’m based in Perth, but regularly travel to present author talks and writing workshops.

I use humour, quirk, emotion and science to capture attention, teach creative thinking and get kids enthusiastic about reading, writing, creating and STEM/STEAM.

Invite me to your school or library

My talks and workshops can cover:

  • The story and process behind making any of my books
  • Blending science and technology with creativity and wonder
  • Plotting and how to do it
  • Starting your story to grab attention
  • Ending your story to satisfy your reader
  • Using non-fiction (like science and history) to inspire fiction
  • Science writing and science literacy
  • Conflict and resolution in fiction
  • The creative process and how to get published
  • How to write with tension…
  • Drawing and creative writing, with lighthouses
  • and more…

I love to work with all ages, from kindy through to adults. I can tailor sessions to suit, whether you want extension writing workshops for keen students or a meet-the-author session for the whole school assembly.

I’ve worked as a teacher in Japan, performed in a science circus in South Africa, worked with roving educational programs across Australia, and appeared at writing festivals here and overseas. I’ve worked with many thousands of children and adults to inspire a love for science, technology, creativity, reading and writing.

I love interactive presentations, and keep my audience engaged, interested, laughing, learning and enthused. You’ll have fun!

I regularly appear and present at:

  • Writer-in-residencies
  • Writer’s festivals
  • Workshops for children and adults
  • Meet-the-author talks.
  • Moderating and chairing sessions and panels
  • Book readings
  • Skype visits

If you’re interested in booking an event or workshop, or discussing a project idea, please contact me.

“I had different teachers returning children’s feedback sheets from your sessions (THE NEXT DAY!!!!) and letting me know kids in the playground had come up to them and said how good you were. One of the staff let me know her friend (a very experienced Teacher at Holy Spirit) had said our CBW programme was the best she’d been to…we will definitely be asking you back in the future.” Cambridge Library

“The feedback received from school about your visit is amazing. You have an amazing and a very positive personality and I enjoyed every bit of my time when I was with you.” Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, UAE

“The kids were absolutely captivated by her, she had them fully engaged and engrossed in subjects many children would be too shy to talk about, she was definitely the talk of the library!” Amherst Village Library
