Blending STEM, literacy and creativity to enthuse, engage and empower

Speaking

What can I contribute to your next event?

Cristy Burne presenterWe all have the potential to live more creatively and courageously. Right now, with global challenge to tackle, we need creativity (and fun!) more than ever.

That’s why I use my experiences as a science writer and children’s author to inspire resilience, creativity, curiosity, and a passion for living with passion. We need to laugh. We need to feel ALIVE!

I use humour, emotion and science to capture attention, promote creative thinking and enthuse kids about reading, writing, creating and STEM/STEAM.

“I just wanted to let you know how much Annabelle enjoyed the zoom class today. She spent the afternoon / evening working on her story and happily read it out to anyone she could find. Thankyou again to the Belmont library staff for organising this, it’s amazing to have such wonderful resources within our community that can make such a difference to young people.”

Cristy Burne one page brochureSTEM, creativity, innovation and courage

Science and curiosity, technology and creativity, problem-solving and story-telling.

Science and engineering is often seen as the opposite end of the creative spectrum to story and writing.

Yet both require a sense of wonder, a quest for more, and an ability to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Both require you to live with creativity and courage.

  • How Cristy creates her fiction and non-fiction children’s books
  • How non-fiction can be even more fantastical and fun than fiction
  • How to harness STEM to add fuel to the creative process
  • How to live more creatively and courageously

Selfie of selfie3I love to work with all ages, from kindy through to adults. I can tailor sessions to suit, whether you want extension writing workshops for keen students or a meet-the-author session for the whole school assembly.

I’ve worked as a teacher in Japan, performed in a science circus in South Africa, worked with roving educational programs across Australia, and appeared at writing festivals here and overseas. I’ve worked with many thousands of children and adults to inspire a love for science, technology, creativity, reading and writing.

I’ve taught workshops and seminars in real life and online since 2009, including for the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) , #LitFest2444, and the Brisbane Writing Festival’s Online Literature Festival.  I bring a lot of energy to my presentations and this translates through the screen as well as on the page.

I love interactive presentations, and keep my audience engaged, interested, laughing, learning and enthused. You’ll have fun!

“I had different teachers returning children’s feedback sheets from your sessions (THE NEXT DAY!!!!) and letting me know kids in the playground had come up to them and said how good you were. One of the staff let me know her friend (a very experienced Teacher at Holy Spirit) had said our CBW programme was the best she’d been to…we will definitely be asking you back in the future.” Cambridge Library

“I want to say thank you for a successful live event last night. It was fun, interactive and mostly hilarious!…it was enthralling to watch.” Better Reading Kids

“The feedback received from school about your visit is amazing. You have an amazing and a very positive personality and I enjoyed every bit of my time when I was with you.” Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, UAE

“The kids were absolutely captivated by her, she had them fully engaged and engrossed in subjects many children would be too shy to talk about, she was definitely the talk of the library!” Amherst Village Library
